Seasons
Spring
At the beginning of February, once the greenhouse has been cleared of all things Christmassy, we plant our early batch of geraniums and from then on production is non-stop through to May. In March and April we have Mothers Day and Easter arrangements available. Cyclamen, tulips, daffodils and hyacinths are on sale. We also stock Heliborus, pot Mums, Senetti, Cineraria, Begonia and orchids to name a few. We can advise you on planting your outdoor pots or simply gift wrap your presents! Please do not hesitate to ask our staff if you need help.
We begin to sell our huge stock of nursery grown plants from mid May and the 2 acre glass house is a sight which has to be seen to be believed. These plants will burst with blooms, filling your garden with colour through until September (and even October!) when you are then invited to view our autumn and winter bedding. For our product list of 100 000 bedding plants, 10 000 hanging baskets and a paddock bursting with shrubs and trees, please see the ‘what we offer’ section of our website. We always have events on in the May bank holidays, whether its cheese tasting at the farm shop or special offers on plants to get you inspired.
Summer
We continue to stock our summer bedding through until July, at which point the nursery is cleaned ready to plant the Poinsettias. There is always a large selection of perennials, shrubs and trees available throughout the year in the paddock. Right the way through the summer the Farm Shop is packed with fresh English grown fruit and vegetables to keep you going. We serve tea and coffee, locally made cakes and cream teas in the piazza or out by the herb garden. It is always worth popping down on a sunny day to feed the cows, pigs, goats, sheep and see our Leonberger dogs.
Autumn
From September we stock a comprehensive range of winter hanging baskets which include hardy herbs (Thyme, Sage, Oregano), dwarf wall flowers, pansies, primroses, ivy, spring bulbs etc. Refills are possible and all container planting is on offer. All baskets can be made up bespoke at very short notice - unless we have to buy specific plants in.
We also have a retail display of winter pansies, mini cyclamen, large indoor cyclamen, bulbs, primroses, wall flowers, polyanthus, ivies. Please contact us directly to check on stock availabilty.
Winter
Although we continue to stock and have arrangements of the above autumn/winter plants, the winter at Pinewood is dominated by our
POINSETTIA crop. Once the greenhouse in cleared in July we plant 50 000 Poinsettias. We supply these to our large contracts (super markets and independent garden centres) as well as to our retail customers. Our main red varieties are Infinity and Mars but we also do a
range of colours. We also offer an extensive range of poinsettia basket and container arrangements that make wonderful Christmas gifts. Please contact us for 2010 prices or to place an order. Pictures of the poinsettias can be viewed on our
gallery.
From late November we stock Nordman (non-drop) Christmas trees as well as small potted trees. You can order turkeys and hams from the farm shop from local suppliers, Etherley Farm, Reading.
All in all , Pinewood in the winter is a very festive place!
